Pundits confidently forecast the demise of one institution or another because of advances in science and technology. But often that not only doesn’t happen, but the exact opposite occurs. For instance, with the advent of the digital and internet age, the need for libraries would no longer exist. They had served us well, but their time had come and gone. That proved not to be the case. In fact, libraries today are more vital and central to the life of the community than they have ever been.
