Neglected tropical diseases, NTDs, affect over one billion of the world’s poorest people. More than 170,000 people die from them each year, and many more suffer from blindness, disability, disfigurement, cognitive impairment, and stunted growth. Yet, NTDs are treatable and preventable, and the annual cost of treatment is incredibly low. An organization that’s leading the effort to combat NTDs is The END Fund. It’s a pleasure to have with us tonight their CEO, Ellen Agler, who has just come out with a new book titled Under the Big Tree: Extraordinary Stories from the Movement to End Neglected Tropical Diseases.
