Progress Personified: The Alberto Ibargüen Era at the Knight Foundation

During his 18-year presidency of the Knight Foundation, Alberto Ibargüen championed local news, promoted digital evolution, leveraged lessons from Hurricane Katrina for community reconstruction, and strived relentlessly for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Recognizing arts as crucial for thriving communities, he fostered cultural landscapes, especially in Miami. As he steps down, Ibargüen leaves behind a lasting legacy of transformative leadership, marked by guiding principles that inspired the Foundation’s stakeholders to navigate future challenges independently, seize new opportunities, and continue journeying into uncharted territories.

Beyond the Newsroom: Alberto Ibargüen’s Lasting Legacy at the Knight Foundation

The Knight Foundation was established by John S. and James L. Knight Brothers, who led one of America’s largest and most successful 20th century newspaper companies. It was their belief that a well-informed community could best determine their own true interests, and they entrusted future generations of trustees to do just that. For the past 18 years, the foundation has been led by Alberto Ibargüen, who recently announced that he will be stepping down as President and CEO, leaving behind a remarkable record of achievement, and he’s with us now. Welcome back to The Business of Giving, Alberto.

He is Alberto Ibargüen, the President and CEO of the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
